Kevyn Fairchild is a lens based artist working in both analog and digital media. Growing up in Alaska, Kevyn developed a love of the natural landscape that dominated his early work. Soon after beginning his formalized academic study of photography, he became fascinated by the ability of photography to not only represent, but interpret reality.
The central question being explored in his work is the relationship between the artist, the subject, and the mechanics of photography itself. He firmly believes that one cannot separate the photographer from photography any more than one can separate the painter from a painting, simply because their tool of choice is mechanical. A camera alone cannot make a beautiful image. It takes an artist.
Kevyn has a B.A. in Cinema studies from the University of Colorado Denver, and a MA in Media Studies from the New School. He currently lives in Staten Island, NY.
